Mutations are one of the most important progression systems in Ride A Pet.
A mutated pet can become faster and more valuable, which makes it useful for both earning money and reaching better eggs.
The current Mutations system includes eight reported mutations: Shocked, Gold, Volted, Diamond, Rage, Void, Rainbow, and Eternal. Their reported multipliers range from 2x to 100x.
Here is how the system works.
What Do Mutations Do?
The main reason to care about mutations is simple:
They make your pets better.
Depending on the mutation, a pet can gain a large boost compared with its normal version.
That can affect:
- Pet speed
- Pet earning rate
- Pet sale value
This makes mutations useful even if you are not collecting every pet in the game.
A strong mutated pet can also help you travel around the map faster, which means you can reach better eggs.
How to Get a Mutation
Mutations are connected to weather events.
To get a weather mutation, place the pets you want to mutate in your pen during the relevant weather event. After the event, check the pets to see whether their labels and stats have changed. Pets sitting only in your inventory are not part of this process.
That means you should not simply keep every pet in your inventory and wait.
If you are actively trying to mutate a pet, prepare your plot first.
The Current Mutation Types
The currently reported mutation list is:
| Mutation | Reported Multiplier |
|---|---|
| Shocked | 2x |
| Gold | 2x |
| Volted | 3x |
| Diamond | 3x |
| Rage | 4x |
| Void | 10x |
| Rainbow | 10x |
| Eternal | 100x |
These figures come from current community guides and should be treated as version-specific because Ride A Pet is still receiving updates.
Do not assume that a multiplier from an old guide will always remain unchanged.
Should You Mutate Your Best Pet?
Usually, you should think before putting your best pet into a mutation setup.
If the pet is already your main mount, losing access to it temporarily may slow down your movement.
A better approach is to keep a useful mount available while working on mutations.
For example, if you have two strong pets, you can use one for movement while the other stays on your plot for the mutation process.
This is much less frustrating than mutating the only pet that lets you travel quickly.
Which Pets Should You Mutate?
Do not mutate a pet just because it is rare.
Think about what the pet will be used for afterward.
A good mutation target can be:
- A pet you already use often
- A fast pet
- A pet with strong earning potential
- A rare pet you want to keep
- A pet that becomes significantly more useful with a mutation
If you are still early in the game, there is no need to spend all your time chasing the strongest mutation.
Getting a better base pet and improving your movement can often help you progress faster.
Weather Matters
The weather system is important because different mutations are tied to different weather events.
When you see a relevant weather event, check your plot and make sure the pets you want to work on are properly placed.
Do not assume that an event automatically mutates every pet you own.
The current guides specifically recommend placing the pets in the pen and checking their results afterward.
Mutation or New Pet?
This is a common decision.
Should you spend time trying to mutate your current pet, or should you keep hunting for a better egg?
Early in the game, a better pet can be the faster path.
Later, mutations become more important because you already have stronger pets and can benefit more from the additional boost.
A simple rule is:
If a new egg can clearly upgrade your mount, keep hunting. If your current pet is already strong, mutations become more attractive.
Do Not Chase the Highest Multiplier Too Early
A 100x Eternal mutation sounds amazing, but that does not mean every player should make it their first goal.
The game is built around progression.
You need enough speed to reach better eggs, enough income to buy useful gear, and enough pets to keep your setup moving.
A mutation that takes a long time to obtain is not always useful if you are still struggling with basic progression.
A Simple Mutation Strategy
For most players:
- Get a useful pet.
- Keep one reliable mount.
- Place another good pet in the pen.
- Watch for the relevant weather event.
- Check the pet after the event.
- Compare its new stats with your current mount.
- Keep the mutation if it actually improves your setup.
Mutations are not a separate game mode. They are another way to make the pets you already have more useful.
And because faster pets help you find better eggs, a good mutation can eventually speed up the entire progression loop.
