Ride A Pet Beginner Guide: What to Do First

Ride A Pet Walkthrough format Published 2026-09-30

Ride A Pet looks simple when you first join: find eggs, hatch pets, and ride them around the map. But the early game can be confusing because there are several things you can spend your cash on, and not every upgrade helps you progress faster.

The easiest way to understand the game is to think of it as a progression loop:

Find eggs → hatch better pets → move faster → find better eggs → earn more → unlock stronger upgrades.

You do not need a rare pet immediately. Your first goal is to build a setup that makes the next upgrade easier to reach.

Start by Getting a Useful Pet

Your first few minutes should be about getting a pet that you can actually use for movement.

Pets are more than collectibles in Ride A Pet. Your mount affects how quickly you can travel around the map, reach eggs, and return to your base.

When you hatch a new pet, compare it with the one you are currently riding.

If the new pet gives you better movement or fits your current progression better, switch to it.

Do not get too attached to your first pet. You will replace it several times as you find better eggs.

Learn the Basic Egg Loop

Once you have a usable mount, start looking for eggs.

Bring the eggs back, hatch them, and check whether the new pet improves your setup.

You should not spend all your time looking for the rarest egg you have heard about online. A rare egg is not very useful if it takes you too long to reach because your current mount is too slow.

Instead, work upward through the available egg rarities.

Your progression should look something like:

Basic pets → better movement → better eggs → stronger pets → higher egg rarities.

Once you understand this loop, you will know what to do even when the game receives a new update.

Save Your Early Cash

One of the easiest beginner mistakes is spending money whenever the cash counter goes up.

Try to give every purchase a purpose.

Before buying an upgrade, ask:

Will this help me move faster, find better eggs, or earn more money?

If it does none of those things, you probably do not need it yet.

This becomes particularly important once you start saving for Radar upgrades or later progression requirements.

You do not need to keep every dollar, but avoiding unnecessary purchases can make your next major upgrade arrive much sooner.

Get Your First Radar

Radar becomes useful when you stop looking for random eggs and start hunting a specific rarity.

The current Radar progression includes Advanced, Jewel, Royal, Magic, Angelic, and Eternal tiers, with each tier aimed at a higher egg rarity.

Advanced Radar is the cheap early option, currently listed at $50 in community documentation. Higher tiers become much more expensive, with Eternal Radar reaching the tens of millions.

As a beginner, you do not need to rush toward the most expensive Radar.

Buy the tier that makes sense for the eggs you can realistically reach.

A Radar is most useful when combined with a fast enough mount. If your pet is slow, finding an egg does not necessarily mean you will reach it before another player.

Learn the Map Instead of Memorizing Everything

You do not need to memorize every location when you first start.

Instead, learn the major landmarks.

This becomes important because later egg hunting often takes you away from the easy starting areas. Current rare-egg guides, for example, use landmarks such as the Giant Tree, waterfall cave, nearby cliffs, Desert Pyramid, and desert maze when describing Blackhole and Cherub egg search areas.

Spend some time exploring when you are not in a hurry.

Find out:

  • Where the Forest connects to the Desert
  • Where the waterfall cave is
  • How to reach the Giant Tree
  • Where the Pyramid is
  • How to get through the desert maze
  • Which routes take you back to your base quickly

This knowledge becomes surprisingly valuable when a rare egg appears.

Do Not Chase Every Rare Egg

Seeing a rare egg announcement can make you want to drop everything and run across the map.

Sometimes that is the right move. Sometimes it is not.

Consider three things:

How far away is it?

How fast is your current mount?

How much better is the egg than what you can already obtain?

If the egg is extremely far away and you are still using a weak mount, you may spend most of your time traveling instead of progressing.

As your speed improves, rare-egg hunting becomes much more worthwhile.

Focus on Movement Early

A faster mount has a benefit that is easy to underestimate.

It does not just make the game feel faster. It lets you complete more actions during the same amount of play time.

You can:

  • Reach eggs faster
  • Check more locations
  • Return to your base sooner
  • Respond to rare spawns
  • Explore difficult areas more easily

That means a pet with useful speed can sometimes be more valuable to a beginner than a pet that simply looks rarer.

When comparing pets, think about how they help your actual gameplay.

Keep One Reliable Mount

As you start collecting more pets, it is useful to keep a reliable mount available.

Do not put your only useful movement pet into a setup where you cannot easily use it when you need to travel.

This becomes even more relevant once you start experimenting with Mutations.

The current mutation system uses weather events, with pets placed in the pen being the ones involved in the process.

If you only have one good pet, losing access to it at the wrong time can make the game feel much slower.

When Should You Start Chasing Mutations?

Mutations are better treated as a mid-game goal rather than something you need to understand immediately.

Once you have a few useful pets and a reasonable way to earn cash, start paying more attention to them.

Current guides list mutations such as Shocked, Gold, Volted, Diamond, Rage, Void, Rainbow, and Eternal, with different effects and multipliers.

You do not need the rarest mutation to keep progressing.

A useful mutation on a pet you already use can be more practical than spending hours trying to get the hardest possible result.

Work Toward Your First Rebirth

Rebirth is one of your first major long-term goals.

The current first Rebirth requirement is reported as $1 million and a Horse. It also provides permanent progression benefits, including an increased income multiplier.

Do not treat the $1 million requirement as something you need to rush toward from your first minute.

Instead, use it as a milestone.

As you improve your pets, Radar, and income, reaching the requirement becomes much easier.

Before rebirthing, make sure you understand what will reset and that you can rebuild your setup afterward.

A Good Early-Game Routine

If you are completely new, try this routine:

  1. Get your first useful mount.
  2. Explore the nearby areas and learn the basic map.
  3. Find and hatch several eggs.
  4. Replace your mount when you get a meaningful upgrade.
  5. Save cash instead of buying every small upgrade.
  6. Get an appropriate Radar once you start hunting specific egg rarities.
